Francis Rios Recognized During Annual Honors Day Awards at Bethany College

2012 Apr 18

Bethany College awarded many of its exemplary students, faculty and staff with a variety of college-wide and departmental awards on April 12 during its annual Honors Day celebrations. The recipients, selected based on their demonstration of outstanding scholarship and other contributions to the College, were presented with their awards during the Honors Day Convocation held in Commencement Hall in Bethany's historic Old Main.

Francis T. Rios, a International Relations and Spanish major, received the International Relations Award and the Margaret R. Woods Prize. Rios, daughter of Oscar and Amalia Rios, resides in San Sebastian, Puerto Rico.

The International Relations Award is presented to the senior who maintains a grade point average of 3.5 or higher and demonstrates excellence in the study of world politics through coursework, travel and study abroad.

The Margaret R. Woods Prize, sponsored by the Kappa Xi Chapter of Sigma Delta Pi, is awarded to the outstanding Spanish major(s). The prize honors the late Miss Woods, who was a faculty member from 1943 until her retirement in 1965. Selection is made by the Department of Foreign Languages.

Bethany College is a small college of national distinction located on a picturesque and historic 1,300-acre campus in the Northern Panhandle of West Virginia. Founded in 1840, Bethany is the state's oldest private college.
